대한민국 제1공화국 시절의 인물인 박마리아와 최덕신 번역본을 비롯해서 오늘날의 21세기에 이르기까지 수많은 번역본이 있었지만, 어처구니없게도 최초의 오기(misnomer)는 수정되지 아니하고, 또 다른 오류가 늘어났다. 그것이 실수가 아니라 명백한 태만에서 비롯되었다면 누적된 사태는 돌이킬 수 없어진다. 즉, Syngman Rhee(이승만)의 Japan Inside Out은 시간이 가면 갈수록 처참하게 망가지고 있었던 것이다. 이를 바로잡지 않으면 회복이 불가능해진다. 그리고 이 경악할 일의 진상을 아무도 모르고 대수롭지 않게 생각하며 사람들은 죽어갈 것이다. 2005년 이후 12년 동안, 책임편집자 남극성이 각국 문서보관소(Archive)의 조언을 참고한 연구조사 끝에, 자료를 인용하는 과정에서 저자인 Syngman Rhee(이승만)도 사소한 실수를 범했음을 발견했다. 이를 따로 기록해 후손들에게 정확한 정보를 전달하고자 했다. 신과 인간의 보편적 가치를 위해 희생했던 모든 사람들의 업적이 오류 없이 복원되어 그들의 이름과 정신이 기억되기를 바란다. 이 책을 발행하는 과정에 있어서 여러 우여곡절이 있었다. 상당한 시간의 천신만고 끝에 광창미디어의 끈질긴 추적에 의해, 이승만 건국대통령의 저작재산권이 살아있음을 미국으로부터 확인받은 후, 이화장(梨花莊)에서 Japan Inside Out의 양도계약서 및 부속합의서가 체결되었다. 이는 대한민국 건국이후 이승만 대통령의 저작재산권 행사가 처음으로 문서상으로 명시된 일이다. 향후 발행예정인 Japan Inside Out의 정확한 우리말 번역본과 광창미디어판 Japan Inside Out의 복원과정을 세세히 담은 기록물을 발행하기에 앞서 우선 원문의 맛을 살린 영어원서를 출판한다. 갈수록 한국어가 사기의 수단으로 전락하는 현상은 유감스러운 일이다. Japan Inside Out의 구체적인 텍스트 확정과정이 21세기에 실현된 것은, 이 책이 영어로 출판되었기 때문이다. 그래서 영어를 사용하는 각국의 기관과 개인으로부터 광창미디어의 노고에 대해 전폭적이고 우정 어린 협조가 가능했음을 밝히며 사의를 표한다.

The restored edition of Japan Inside Out is based on twelve years of research (2005-2017). In this restored edition, typos and misnomers in the 1941 release were corrected, and historically inaccurate statements were described untouched together with the precise evidence and clear explanation mentioned in the editor's note. Unfortunately, only the first edition of Japan Inside Out have been translated so far. It is not until 2017 that the revision for the second edition done by Syngman Rhee is known to Gwangchang Media and Dr. Insoo Rhee, son of Syngman Rhee. It was proved that readers had only read the translated version of the first edition full of mistranslation. Most of them must not know the existence of the additional paragraphs Syngman Rhee attached which directly warned the possibility of the Japanese attack toward the U.S. territory. Gwangchang Media adopted later editions of Japan Inside Out that attached additional pages because the revised version of Japan Inside Out seemed to be close to a more refined form of Syngman Rhee's original ideas. Like the multi-national allied soldiers commanded by the General Douglas MacArthur who accomplished the legendary Incheon Amphibious Landing Operation for the counter attack during the Korean War, many fine people from countries all over the world took part in this endeavor. It was concluded that the restored edition of Japan Inside Out would be released on September 15th, 2017 in order to memorize the D-day of the successful Incheon Landing Operation in 1950. Gwangchang Media made a contract with Dr. Insoo Rhee, and finally successfully accomplished the restoration of the classic nobody else had imagined. This is the first official use of Syngman Rhee's intellectual property exerted in Korea.

저자 : 이승만 Syngman Rhee (이승만) Born in Pyongsan, Hwanghae Province in Korea, Rhee moved to the capital city, Seoul, at the age of three. Influenced by the newly arriving missionaries, he attended a Methodist school where he studied with foreign missionaries and domestic reformers. After suffering barbarous imprisonment for several years for his attempts to bring political democracy to Korea, he moved to the U.S. and was educated in George Washington University (B.A. 1907), Harvard University (M.A. 1908), and Princeton University (Ph.D. 1910). Believing he could help his homeland, Rhee returned to Korea but was hastily forced to relocate back to America in 1912 as the nation had been annexed by Japan. He continued to establish organizations abroad in order to fight for the liberation of Korea. After experiencing and investigating Japanese militaristic maneuvers toward the East and West for several decades, he published Japan Inside Out in June, 1941, which posited the possibility of a Japanese attack on U.S. territory. Several months later, his prediction became a reality with the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941.
